While mild cognitive impairment (MCI) is an intermediate stage between normal cognition and ad dementia, and has a high possibility of conversion to ad dementia. The survey shows that there are about 15.07 million dementia patients among the population over 60 years old in China, including about 9.83 million AD patients and about 38.77 million MCI patients. The development of ad can be divided into three stages: preclinical AD, MCI due to AD and dementia due to AD.
